Calhanoglu relishes revenge over Milan: ‘Karma comes back’

Hakan Calhanoglu hit out at his former Milan teammates for their insulting Scudetto celebrations and relished revenge with Inter in the Supercoppa. ‘Karma comes around. We gobbled Milan up.’

The Nerazzurri dominated in Riyadh this evening with a 3-0 scoreline thanks to goals from Federico Dimarco, Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez.

If most Inter players will resist saying this was revenge for losing out on the Scudetto last season to their arch-rivals, then Calhanoglu is more than open to admitting the tension behind the scenes.

“It is a very important trophy, even more so for me. I thank my teammates and fans, we showed today with a 3-0 result that there’s not much to argue with,” Calhanoglu told Sport Mediaset.

Milan caused controversy in May when celebrating the Serie A title with insulting chants aimed towards their former teammate and even joking around with a blow-up doll that had his jersey.

Revenge, it is safe to say, is served cold in the Calhanoglu household.

“Of course, I always prefer to stay quiet. It was very nasty for me to see things I did not expect, but karma comes around. Karma comes around. We were hungry today, they have to respect that with a 3-0 result, we sent them home quickly.

“I think today we gobbled Milan up. That’s all there is to it.”

Will this victory help propel Inter forward in the Scudetto race too, with Napoli running away at the top of the Serie A table?

“We believe to the end. We did well against Napoli, had that slip-up against Monza that nobody expected, but got back on track with Verona. There’s a long way to go and we can do it.”
