Bonuses in Lukaku’s Roma contract revealed

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Romelu Lukaku will earn €400,000 extra if Roma qualify for the Champions League this season, but the Belgian has more performance-related bonuses in his contract with the Giallorossi.

Roma confirmed Lukaku’s loan move from Chelsea on Thursday. The Belgian has joined the Giallorossi until June 2024.

He has agreed to take a pay cut and will earn €7m in 2023-24. However, as reported by Thursday’s printed edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (page 10), the ex-Inter striker has agreed to performance-related bonuses that could allow him to earn up to €1m extra this season.

One of the most consistent is a bonus he will receive if Roma earn a top-four finish in 2023-24. According to journalist Carlo Laudisa, that would help Lukaku put €400,000 on top of his basic salary.

There are also add-ons related to Roma’s potential Serie A title as well as Lukaku’s goals and appearances with the Giallorossi.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the Belgian could make his Roma debut on Friday in a home game against Milan. The 30-year-old is expected to start on the bench against the Rossoneri alongside Paulo Dybala.
