Boehly-Friedkin link key to Lukaku’s Roma transfer from Chelsea

Romelu Lukaku has already trained at Trigoria and Sky Sport Italia reports that the close bond between Dan Friedkin and Todd Boehly helped the Giallorossi sign the Belgian striker on loan.

Friedkin followed negotiations in London over the last few days and personally flew Lukaku to the capital on Tuesday having a pilot’s license.

Sky Sport Italia pundit Luca Marchetti said during Wednesday’s transfer show that the friendly relationship between Roma and Chelsea owners helped the Giallorossi sign Lukaku on loan until the end of the season.

Friedkin and Boehly met in London earlier this week to discuss the deal alongside the clubs’ directors. The two American businessmen are said to be very close, so it was easier for the two parties to reach an agreement.

Lukaku did his part by taking a pay cut before moving to the capital.

Roma do not have an option to buy, so the 30-year-old is expected to return to Stamford Bridge in June 2024.

The Giallorossi will announce the ex-Inter forward on Thursday but he has a chance to be called up for Friday’s game against Milan, having trained at Continassa on Wednesday morning.
