Benfica goalkeeper Artur said his side are “in a strong position for the second leg” after beating Juventus 2-1.

The former third choice shot-stopper at Roma has found success in Lisbon and performed a crucial save on Claudio Marchisio in this evening’s Europa League semi-final.

“I had to keep cool, knowing we were facing a strong side with many talented players who can make the difference in attack,” Artur told Sky Sport Italia.

“Thankfully, at Benfica we all attack together and defend together. We won a very important match that puts us in a strong position for the second leg.”

Benfica lost the Europa League Final to Chelsea last season, but also failed at the last hurdle in the League and Cup.

“It’s not every team who can reach three Finals in a single season. We feel more confident in our capabilities now and are eager to make up for that cruel end to the campaign.”

They’ve already gone some way to achieving that, as Benfica mathematically secured the Portuguese League title on Sunday.
