Agent: ‘Musacchio shouldn’t be third in line’

Agent Marcelo Lombilia has revealed that Mateo Musacchio was not happy to learn that he has lost his place in the side after having sacrificed himself for Milan.

The centre-half has appeared 18 times in Serie A this term but was replaced by Simon Kjaer in January, when Milan brought in the Denmark international whilst Musacchio was out injured with a bruised ankle.

Since the arrival of Kjaer on January 13, Musacchio has only played 106 minutes in total and had to accept a place on the bench, something his agent claims to be 'unfair'.

“It’s very complicated when a player gives everything, tries to prove he’s worth the money they pay him and then gets injured because of overload,” he told MilanNews.it. “Because the coach asked you to and since the team needed you because of the lack of someone else.

“You stop for three games and then you come back to learn you’re on the bench. You are now the third in line in the defensive hierarchy.

“One year because Leonardo Bonucci arrived and it was Bonucci, then Mattia Caldara and the Italian press felt he always had to play, it was written every day, I read it every day and I know the effect it has on a player’s mindset.

“Now, you hurt yourself, you come back and you’re third in line for your position. There’s a bit of unease in this sense, because it’s not fair. But the coach decides and that must be respected.”

Both games Musacchio has played in after the arrival of the former Atalanta and Roma player have ended 1-1, against Hellas Verona and Fiorentina respectively.

Milan currently sit seventh in the suspended Serie A season, three points behind sixth-placed Napoli.
