Agent: ‘Atalanta turned down 45m Napoli bid for Koopmeiners’

Atalanta turned down an official €45m bid from Napoli for Teun Koopmeiners,’ reveals the Dutch midfielder’s agent. ‘He is not for sale this summer.’

The 25-year-old Dutch international had also been linked with Milan, Juventus and Inter earlier in the campaign, as well as to clubs abroad.

He was signed from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2021 for €14m and has gone from strength to strength in Bergamo, last season scoring 10 goals and providing four assists in 33 Serie A appearances.

“I was in Bergamo last week. Napoli made an official bid worth €45m, but Atalanta turned it down. They said that Teun is not for sale this summer,” agent Bart Baving told SpazioNapoli.

“They are building a team around Teun and he is their key player. So he will remain with Atalanta this season.”

The representative confirms that the approach had been made for Koopmeiners, but that it never got to the stage of discussing personal terms with the player.

“It was only between the two clubs and Atalanta’s message was very clear. Teun is not for sale this summer. So there was no need to negotiate a contract between us and Napoli.”

The Partenopei had been on the look-out for midfielders and were on the verge of securing Gabri Veiga from Celta Vigo, but they failed to strike a deal and he is now heading to undergo a medical with Al Ahli in the Saudi Pro League.

They might now instead decide to keep hold of Diego Demme rather than sell him to a club in the Bundesliga.
