“Why didn’t I give Dybala to my friend Aurelio De Laurentiis? He offered a big fee, plus a midfielder who is much stronger now: Jorginho.

“He didn’t play with [Rafa] Benitez, now he’s reborn under [Maurizio] Sarri. De Laurentiis offered me €25m plus Jorginho, and who could stop them with Higuain and Dybala?

“The player’s agents had already reached an agreement with Juventus though.”

Zamparini also discussed the Operation Offside scandal, having declared today that he wants Serie A suspended.

“The things I’ve read in the papers are ridiculous, I’ve proven to be reliable and honest. Being in the papers for €63,000, as well as €8,000 for De Laurentiis those are things I tell people abroad and they don’t believe it.

“The media are at fault, and we have to make enquiries about some judges.

“The prosector should put the FIGC under investigation, they allowed agents to take money from clubs. They legalised something which isn’t legal.”
