The Roma midfielder was part of the Azzurri squad that lifted the trophy in 2006, and is desperate to repeat that this summer in Brazil.
“How does it feel to win the World Cup? It’s amazing,” he told CNN. “It’s a feeling you can’t understand until you do it.

“How does it feel to win the World Cup? It’s amazing,” he told CNN. “It’s a feeling you can’t understand until you do it.
“It never fades, no matter how many years go by.
“The start of a tournament is always a little nervous because you know the whole world is watching you.
“But as it goes on, and the adrenaline kicks in, you quickly forget about all that.
“We’re a united group with strong players and a strong Coach, so we’ll be fine.”
The Giallorossi vice-captain then commented on international teammate Mario Balotelli, his favourite World Cup memory and who could star at this summer’s tournament.
“People often ask me this question. Mario is a good guy. I have met so many selfish players, but he is good-natured.
“Who will do well this year? I think Messi and Neymar will do well, but then you have players like Pirlo, Ozil and Iniesta who possess some real magic.
“I’ve never played against Messi and Ronaldo, so maybe I’ll have the opportunity to come up against these monsters this time.
“My best memory? Definitely scoring a penalty in the final. All of my best memories come from that night.”
Italy will be in London on Saturday May 31 to play the Republic of Ireland at Craven Cottage in their first warm-up game ahead of the World Cup.
