Who is Tottenham-Milan referee Clement Turpin?

Clement Turpin will be the referee in charge of Milan’s Champions League Round of 16 second-leg tie against Tottenham in London on Wednesday evening.

The 40-year-old has officiated 542 games in his career, including 40 matches in the Champions League.

Turpin was also the referee for both the 2021 Europa League final between Villareal and Manchester United in Gdansk and the 2022 Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool in Paris in 2022.

The Frenchman has been a FIFA-listed referee since 2010 and has been the man with the whistle in three previous games involving the Italian national team.

This will be the third time that Turpin has been involved in a Milan game, the first being the 2-0 loss to Arsenal in the Europa League Round of 16 second leg at the Giuseppe Meazza in 2018.

He has also taken charge of the Rossoneri’s 1-1 draw with Porto in the Group Stage of the Champions League in 2021, showing a 55th-minute yellow card to Fikayo Tomori.

Turpin has refereed three Tottenham games previously in games against Borussia Dortmund, Inter and Bayern Munich in both the Europa League and Champions League.

Alejandro Hernandez of Spain, who has never previously taken charge of games involving either Milan or Tottenham, will be the man in the VAR booth on Wednesday evening.
