Ten Hag’s Man United re-ignite interest in De Ligt

Matthijs de Ligt’s possible doubts about the long-term project at Juventus have seen an Erik ten Hag-led Manchester United re-ignite their interest in the Dutch centre back.

The 22-year-old defender’s recent interview from the Netherlands’ training camp, where he expressed some doubts regarding a contract renewal with the Bianconeri, has caused anxiety in Turin. A move away in the summer now doesn’t seem impossible, despite his strong season this campaign under Massimiliano Allegri.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Manchester United are interested in making a move for De Ligt this summer, wanting to reunite him with new coach Ten Hag. The pair found success together at Ajax and he could be the right signing to shore up their poor defence.

Chelsea are also keen but a move to West London seems a little less likely considering the recent takeover. The Red Devils were keen to sign De Ligt back in the summer of 2019 before he made the move to Juventus.

Nothing concrete has taken place yet but Manchester United are likely to make an approach for the 22-year-old in the coming months, hopeful of securing a discount on his €120m release clause.
