Lazio director Igli Tare insists protests from fans are unwarranted, as the club has ‘very clear ideas for the present and future’ under Maurizio Sarri.
The Biancocelesti are at San Siro this evening against Milan in the Coppa Italia quarter-final, with the winners going on to face Inter.
Sarri was critical of the tournament for being ‘anti-sporting’ in its basic structure and not following the FA Cup model.
“The Coppa Italia is an objective for the season, we are in a positive period of form and will try to get through to the next round,” Tare told Sport Mediaset.
“The coach gave his personal views on the competition, but we do share the general idea. It’s pointless causing controversy, though, let’s focus on tonight’s match.”
Lazio fans staged a protest at the Formello training ground last week, accusing the club of weakening the squad during the January transfer window and even putting Sarri’s contract extension at risk.
“The transfer market is closed and we have to look forward now,” replied Tare.
“We explained our reasons, we are not misjudging our planning, quite the opposite. We have very clear ideas for the present and above all the future.
“Sarri plays a fundamental role in that.”
