Suso credits Milan Coach Gattuso

Milan winger Suso has credited “Number One” Coach Gennaro Gattuso for his return to form for both club and country.

The 24-year-old claimed two assists in Spain’s recent 4-1 win against Wales, to go alongside the six assists and two goals he already has for the Rossoneri this term.

“The people who know me know what I can do,” he told Marca. “They know what my strengths and weaknesses are.”

The game at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff was only Suso’s second full international cap, coming almost 12 months after he made his debut under former boss Julen Lopetegui.

“Being in the national team is a dream, Spain is one of the best sides in the world and it’s a huge honour for me.

“There is not much difference between (Spain Coach) Luis Enrique and (Milan boss) Gattuso,” explained Suso. “They both have similar ideas and love attacking with wide men.”

Having failed to hit the heights at Liverpool, Suso was philosophical about his career path. “You learn everywhere, there is a great culture in football and despite being given little playing time, it helped me mature quickly.”

Suso made just 14 appearances for the Merseyside club before completing a £1.17m (€1.9m) move in January 2015. “I’m Spanish in the way I look at football, but Italian football is very tactical, very challenging for the attacking player.”

Suso’s form this season has captured the imagination of the Milan fans and he now feels the squad is settled under the tutelage of Gattuso. “He is just like when he was a player, passionate and intense, but off the field he is totally different, you can talk to him about anything. He in the Number One.”
