Edin Dzeko had scored a crucial away goal at Camp Nou, but Suarez pounced on a Maxime Gonalons gift to seal the scoreline in this Champions League quarter-final.

“I celebrated with anger as well as joy, because Roma had an away goal and 4-1 allows us to travel for the second leg with more confidence than 3-1,” the Uruguayan told Mundo Deportivo.

“It’s a very good result, considering how the game actually went, and is probably exaggerated in that sense. Having said that, we too had four or five other clear chances and their goalkeeper had a good performance.

“Marc-Andre Ter Stegen proved why he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world right now.

“If Roma scored two own goals, it’s because our quick passes in the box forced them into making mistakes. It’s not just about luck.

“Obviously, we want to win every match we can, but in the Champions League you never know what can happen because it’s a very tough tournament.”
