Stadio Olimpico confirmed for Italy vs. Switzerland

It is now confirmed that Italy’s crunch 2022 World Cup qualifier against Switzerland will be at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on November 12.

The match was always scheduled for this venue, but some concerns had emerged over the last few days about the state of the pitch.

With both Roma and Lazio playing Serie A, Coppa Italia and European fixtures here, the turf rarely gets a break, with Jose Mourinho and Maurizio Sarri complaining about the conditions.

There is also a rugby match due to be played here.

However, following an inspection, the FIGC has now confirmed that the Stadio Olimpico will host the World Cup qualifier between Italy and Switzerland on Friday November 12.

As per the new COVID regulations, it will be open to 75 per cent capacity rather than the current 50 per cent.

Tickets for the game will go on sale from the afternoon of Monday October 18.

Italy lead Group C with 14 points from six games, but Switzerland are right on their heels with 11 points after just five matches played.

Only the group winners go directly into the 2022 World Cup, the runners-up facing the play-offs.
