Sottil bids farewell to Udinese: ‘I gave my soul and this ending hurts’

Andrea Sottil sent an emotional goodbye to Udinese fans after his recent dismissal, thanking those ‘who believed in this project’.

The 49-year-old Italian coach was shown the door by the Friulian side on Tuesday and was replaced by Gabriele Cioffi, bringing his 16-month spell in charge to an end. Udinese have started the season in disastrous fashion and find themselves winless after nine games, sitting 18th in the table.

Sottil oversaw 50 matches in charge of Udinese from his appointment in June 2022 to his dismissal this week, averaging 1.16 points per match. His first nine league games in charge saw him take the team third with six wins and a draw, but the Bianconeri soon lost momentum and finished 12th.

Speaking to TMW, Sottil bid farewell to Udinese and thanked the fans for their support.

“I’m very sorry it ended like this. I gave my soul and this ending hurts even more. I want to thank all those who have been part of this long journey.

“Those who have always supported us, those who have worked together with me every day for the good of this club, my boys, the Juventus fans, the people who believed in this project.

“I am and will always be grateful to this family, I am and will always be an Udinese fan.”

Cioffi will now need to try and quickly turn things around for Udinese, who’ve only picked up six points from their first nine games. Their next match is against Monza on October 29.
