It is reported Milan had a summit last night to discuss rebuilding the squad with the likes of Mario Balotelli and Inter star Wesley Sneijder.

President Silvio Berlusconi, Vice-President Adriano Galliani and Coach Massimiliano Allegri dined together at the patron’s Arcore home.

It is widely reported this represents a show of faith in Allegri, who was criticised by Berlusconi for “throwing away” the Scudetto.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the tactician has requested more quality in midfield and an audacious option would be tempting Inter star Sneijder across the San Siro divide.

A cheaper and more home-grown alternative to Sneijder would be current Catania creative midfielder Francesco Lodi, whose contract expires in 2015.

There is also the proposal to bring Balotelli in from Manchester City, as the Italian is constantly at odds with the British tabloid press and is a self-confessed Milan supporter.

There has to be a process of renewal, especially as Alessandro Nesta, Gennaro Gattuso and Pippo Inzaghi have confirmed they will leave at the end of the season.

More are expected to follow, including Clarence Seedorf and Mark van Bommel, so the average age of the squad will be reduced.
