Shaqiri: Juve not a step back

Xherdan Shaqiri says he has not had contact with apparently interested clubs, but encourages links to Juventus.

The Switzerland international is seen as on his way out of Bayern Munich this summer having struggled for regular playing time last year under Pep Guardiola.

Linked with a number of clubs, it is Juventus who apparently now lead interest from Serie A and who the 22-year-old playmaker has chosen to comment on.

“At the moment I am on vacation and I do not know what will happen in the future, all this is taken care of by my brother [who is also the agent],” Shaqiri has told Tuttosport today.

“I have a contract with Bayern Munich, which expires in 2016 and today that is the only certainty for me.

“Juventus? I have had no contact, just as I do not know of interest from Liverpool and Monaco.

“However, Juventus are a great club, who doesn’t want to play for them?

“To date, I repeat, I am a Bayern Munich player, but for me Juventus would not be a step backwards.”
