Sarri: ‘Napoli didn’t drop off’

Maurizio Sarri says claims Napoli dropped-off toward the end of last season are “a journalistic invention”.

The Partenopei were winter champions, but ultimately finished second behind Juventus, who retained the Scudetto with three games to spare.

“The drop in performance last year is a journalistic invention,” Sarri scolded in his Press conference ahead of the Benfica match.

“We got 41 points in the first half of the season and 41 points in the second, so we didn’t drop-off that much.

“There isn’t much significance the table at this point, and we’ve played on game in the cup competitions.

“Last year Inter were top and people talked about a rebirth… On paper Juventus are favourites, but let’s talk about tomorrow’s game.”
