Sabatini confirms Roma offer

Walter Sabatini has confirmed he is in negotiations to be sporting director of Thomas Di Benedetto's Roma.

“I gave Di Benedetto my availability for the role of sporting director at Roma, but have not as yet signed a contract,” he told Rete24.it.

“I just need to wait for the takeover to be completed.”

Sabatini is a well-known figure in Serie A, as he resigned from Palermo following a row with President Maurizio Zamparini, a decision that paved the way for Coach Delio Rossi's dismissal.

He then had a verbal agreement to join Sampdoria, but has taken care of that link.

“Before giving the all-clear to Di Benedetto, I had to break off my agreement with Sampdoria.

“It was very difficult, because from the first meetings I realised that I was among important people who have a great professional approach to the sport.

“However, I had to make a different choice when Di Benedetto's offer came in.”

It is widely reported that American businessman Di Benedetto also held talks with current England general manager Franco Baldini to lead the new Roma.
