“I have to thank all the Genoa fans for the myriad of affectionate messages I received through the social networks,” said the 35-year-old midfielder.

“You really moved me.”

Rossi, who has been at Genoa for 10 years, will remain at the club as part of the back room staff.

Meanwhile, today Genoa announced that they have bought midfielder Strasser from Milan in exchange for the remaining 50 per cent of Kevin Constant’s contract.

It means that Milan now own Constant outright.
