Roma transfer news: head to head between Morata and Scamacca

Jose Mourinho has identified Alvaro Morata as his priority target, but Roma would prefer to complete a deal with West Ham for Gianluca Scamacca, reports detail.

The Giallorossi are in the market for a new centre forward following the serious injury suffered by Tammy Abraham, who’ll likely be sidelined until January or February of next year due to his cruciate ligament rupture.

Roma have also retained Andrea Belotti, activating the option in his contract to extend his stay for another two years. The club are keen to tie down key creator Paulo Dybala to a new deal as well.

Page 11 of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how Mourinho is pushing for Roma to sign Morata, keen to add the experienced Spaniard to his squad as they prepare to fight for Champions League qualification.

Roma director Tiago Pinto would prefer to pick up Scamacca, however, and talks are ongoing with both targets, with the feeling that one of the two will end up joining this summer.

Pinto and the Giallorossi prefer the West Ham striker due to his history in the Italian capital, his public appreciation for the club and his younger age.
