Roma defender Mancini limps off for Italy

There are more concerns for Roma, as after Lorenzo Pellegrini was sent home early from international duty, Gianluca Mancini limped off during Italy’s EURO 2024 qualifier against North Macedonia.

This has not been a positive break for international duty for Jose Mourinho, who has already been dealing with enough injury problems in Serie A, including Paulo Dybala and Renato Sanches.

Pellegrini was set to start this evening, but pulled out of the squad completely with a muscular problem that he picked up in training.

His Roma teammate Mancini did get the nod in central defence and lasted over an hour before limping off clutching the top of his right thigh.

It appeared to be an flexor issue, possibly caused by a change of direction on a frankly awful playing surface in Skopje.

Mancini immediately gestured towards the bench and was substituted by Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini.

If that is a muscular problem, then Mancini will probably be ruled out of Tuesday’s qualifier against Ukraine at San Siro.
