Petr Cech left his role as Chelsea technical and performance advisor amid Romelu Lukaku’s impending return to Inter, according to reports in the UK media.
Lukaku joined Chelsea from Inter in a deal worth €115 million 12 months ago but is returning to his former club on loan – and landed in Milan on Wednesday.
The Guardian report one of the key reasons behind the former goalkeeper’s departure was that he found himself questioning his role under the new Todd Boehly regime, having been insistent in his belief that Lukaku should have been given more time.
The Belgium forward finished the campaign as Chelsea’s top goal scorer in all competitions but was often omitted from the starting line-up for big matches.
His relationship with the club was also strained after he gave an interview to Italian TV in December, where he said he was not happy at Chelsea and wanted to return to Inter.
Cech, who played for Chelsea 2004 to 2015, winning numerous trophies, returned as a director in 2019 but left as part of clear out after Boehly purchased the club from Roman Abramovich.
