Lazio boss Edy Reja hopes he can finally take revenge on ex-derby rival Claudio Ranieri’s Inter. “I do not have good memories of him.”

Ranieri famously dominated their inter-city battles during his time in charge of Roma.

“I don’t have particularly good memories of him, so it would be nice to get ‘revenge’ on Ranieri,” admitted Reja.

“Under his guidance, Inter have become truly competitive. The team follows his orders, doesn’t concede many goals and even Diego Milito has rediscovered his form.

“We are facing a side in great shape, but I hope luck is more on Lazio’s side than it was last season. Tomorrow night is a very important test, perhaps even decisive for our future, so we want a result.”

The Biancocelesti were in crisis after their 4-0 defeat to Siena, but got back on track by beating Chievo in the Coppa Italia and Atalanta in Serie A.

“We had stalled at Siena, but have since turned the engine back on and are revving up for this game. Leaving San Siro with a result would improve our self-confidence, letting us realise we are a strong side.”

Reja comes face to face with Mauro Zarate, who left Lazio after their blazing rows over the summer.

“He has extraordinary quality and is a player who we’ve all been waiting for, from me to Gian Piero Gasperini and Ranieri. We all await his step up to maturity.”

Tommaso Rocchi and Andre Dias are in the squad after injury scares.
