Red Star Belgrade coach Dejan Stankovic has denied that Roma left-back Aleksandar Kolarov will return to Serbia this winter.

The 34-year-old has been linked with a return to Red Star, where he started his career. But the player himself has previously denied he wants to return.

The 34-year-old has been linked with a return to Red Star, where he started his career. But the player himself has previously denied he wants to return.

His contract at Roma expires at the end of the season and his contract situation at the Giallorossi has sparked new life into the rumours about a move back home.

The former Lazio and Inter hero Stankovic has denied that Red Star are in a position to bring him home, but said “the door will always be open”.

“Kolarov has his club, he has a strong contract,” Stankovic told Pink TV. “There is no possibility that he could come to us now.

“Reality doesn’t allow us to think about it at the moment,” he added. “But you never know. If he ever wants to end his career at Red Star, the door will always be open.”

Kolarov has played 85 Serie A matches since he moved back to the capital from Manchester City and has scored five times in 17 league games this season.
