Raspadori tested in attack for Italy vs. Malta

Giacomo Raspadori, Domenico Berardi and Moise Kean were tested out in a trident attack as Italy prepare for the EURO 2024 qualifier against Malta.

It kicks off on Saturday at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT) at the Stadio San Nicola in Bari.

Coach Luciano Spalletti has a limited number of options for the attack after injuries hit Ciro Immobile and Mattia Zaccagni, while Gianluca Scamacca and Federico Chiesa are not fully fit and likely to be rested until Tuesday’s showdown with England.

Today Spalletti tested out a 4-3-3 formation with Berardi and Kean on the wings, Napoli striker Raspadori used as a centre-forward.

There is competition between Sandro Tonali and Davide Frattesi for the midfield spot along with Manuel Locatelli and Nicolò Barella.

Matteo Darmian was used as right-back, with Federico Dimarco and Alessandro Bastoni making it an Inter-centric defence, joined by Roma’s Gianluca Mancini.

Italy probable (4-3-3): Donnarumma; Darmian, Mancini, Bastoni, Dimarco; Barella, Locatelli, Frattesi; Berardi, Raspadori, Kean
