Ranieri: ‘I am sorry for Mourinho’

Cagliari coach Claudio Ranieri is ‘sorry’ for José Mourinho but wishes ‘all the best’ to his former player Daniele De Rossi: ‘He’s a son of Rome.’

Ranieri spoke at a press conference on Friday on the eve of a Serie A game against Frosinone. Of course, he could not avoid a question on Mourinho and De Rossi, now that the 2006 Italy World Cup winner has been called upon to replace the Special One at the Stadio Olimpico.

“I am sorry for Mourinho, Roma lose a real fighter who had led the club to win an international trophy and sell out the stadium in every game,” said Ranieri.

“Now De Rossi arrives, a son of Rome. I wish him all the best and to conquer as a coach what he won as a footballer.”

When asked about Cagliari’s next opponent Frosinone, Ranieri replied: “They have quality and play at a high pace, they never give up. We must avoid conceding goals as they create a lot. They even eliminated Napoli from the Coppa Italia by scoring four goals. This is a team we must face carefully.”
