Rabiot on Juventus choice and Pogba troubles

Adrien Rabiot explains why he decided to extend his contract with Juventus rather than leave as a free agent, but cannot make promises for the future, while he stands by Paul Pogba.

The midfielder arrived in Turin as a free agent from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2019 and had been ready to walk away for more lucrative contracts with interest from amongst others the Premier League and LaLiga.

Instead, he signed a new short-term deal with Juve that will expire at the end of the current campaign.

“This is a club where I am happy and we are having a very good season,” Rabiot told Telefoot.

“Staying at a team I knew very well, in the season going into the European Championship, seemed the best option. The club has faith in me.

“We’ll see later on about a renewal, but in any case I am very happy with my situation at the club and in the France squad.”

Rabiot is certainly a regular at Juventus, scoring one goal and providing two assists in eight Serie A appearances this season.

He opted to remain with the Bianconeri even after they were excluded from European football.

His teammate for both club and country is Pogba, who has had nothing but problems since the return to Juventus from Manchester United.

After injuries and the court case involving his brother, Pogba is now suspended after failing a doping test.

“I spoke to him, it’s a complicated situation and we were all really stunned when we heard the news. Obviously, we stand with him and hope he can emerge from this in the best possible way, because all of this is a lot for one person to deal with.”
