Portugal fans want Cristiano Ronaldo dropped for Milan’s Rafael Leao

Portugal fans are increasingly frustrated at seeing Milan star Rafael Leao on the bench, as 70 per cent voted for Cristiano Ronaldo to be dropped at the World Cup.

So far in the tournament in Qatar, Leao has come on as a substitute in all three group games for a maximum of 25 minutes each time, scoring a goal against Ghana with his first touch.

There is a Round of 16 coming up against Switzerland on Tuesday at 19.00 GMT and the Portugal fans are losing patience with the team.

A poll conducted by Portuguese sports paper A Bola found that a staggering 70 per cent voted Cristiano Ronaldo should not be in the starting XI against Switzerland.

The natural replacement is Leao, who was Serie A Player of the Year last season at Milan and so far this term found the net seven times with nine assists in 20 club appearances.
