According to the Daily Mirror, Mourinho is under pressure to win at least one major trophy next season and wants to bolster his squad by signing four established players.

Top of the list are said to be Real Madrid duo Raphael Varane and Toni Kroos, with Verratti and Juventus left-back Alex Sandro also under consideration.

The Red Devils’ Portuguese boss will have a reported £200m to spend in this summer’s transfer window as he seeks to make United genuine contenders in both the Premier League and Champions League.

And the English daily claims that he would be ready to use Pogba as a bargaining chip in any deal done with Real Madrid, Juve or Verratti’s club Paris Saint-Germain.

Having allowed Pogba to leave to join Juve for free back in 2012, United re-signed the player in the summer of 2016 for a then-world record fee of £89m.
