Player Ratings: Milan 0-1 Benevento

Did anyone in the Milan squad emerge unscathed from their shock defeat to 10-man Benevento in the Football Italia Player Ratings?

Words: Ciro Di Brita – @Ciruzzo36

Gianluigi Donnarumma – 6

Had to scurry back to clear the ball off his line when Ricardo Rodriguez overhit a back pass. Couldn’t do much about Pietro Iemmello’s goal.

Davide Calabria – 6

Did anyone in the Milan squad emerge unscathed from their shock defeat to 10-man Benevento in the Football Italia Player Ratings?

Words: Ciro Di Brita – @Ciruzzo36

Gianluigi Donnarumma – 6

Had to scurry back to clear the ball off his line when Ricardo Rodriguez overhit a back pass. Couldn’t do much about Pietro Iemmello’s goal.

Davide Calabria – 6

Another decent display by the young right-back, sat back to cover on the diagonal while Rodriguez was the one to push forward.

Leonardo Bonucci – 5

Kept Iemmello onside with some lazy defending. Made a meal out of the challenge that led to Cheick Diabate’s red card.

Cristian Zapata – 6

Had a solid night defensively and was the best of the Milan defence.

Ricardo Rodriguez – 5

Almost scored an own goal with a wayward back pass to Donnarumma, overhit a number of crosses and struggled to provide any attacking threat down the left.

Franck Kessie – 6

Smacked the crossbar with a thunderous drive, but other than that had a quiet night. The formation change to a two-man midfield did nothing to help get the best out of him.

Lucas Biglia – 5

Had his work cut out for him playing in a midfield two and did just alright, hobbled off injured with about 15 minutes to go.

Fabio Borini – 5

Was surprisingly given the nod ahead of Suso to start this game and failed to justify his inclusion. Hauled off three minutes into the second half in favour of the Spaniard.

Giacomo Bonaventura – 5

Tested Christian Puggioni in the Benevento goal with a couple of decent strikes from outside the box, but that was about the extent of Bonaventura’s play on the night.

Patrick Cutrone – 5

Came back into the side as Milan went with two up top and had a glorious chance to score, but couldn’t find a way past Puggioni.  Another player that suffered due to the change of formation, never found any space and was easily dealt with by the Benevento defence.

Andre Silva – 5

Swiped at the air instead of the ball when in front of goal in the opening few minutes of the game, which set the tone for his night. Never linked up with his teammates and was continuously caught offside. Poor game for the Portuguese striker.

Substitutes:

Suso – 5

Replaced the ineffective Borini just after the interval and was just as anonymous.

Nikola Kalinic – 5

Came on for Andre Silva with a half hour remaining and just watched the game go on around him.

Manuel Locatelli – 6

Replaced Biglia and tried to get on the ball and make something happen, unfortunately for him by the time he came on Benevento had closed up shop and were defending the box and spaces around it.
