Pioli: ‘No problem with Candreva’

Stefano Pioli assures “all situations are in the past” with Antonio Candreva as “now there is only Inter”.

The pair were together at Lazio, and the midfielder admitted he was upset that he wasn’t given the Aquile captaincy, especially as “Pioli never gave me an explanation”.

The pair were together at Lazio, and the midfielder admitted he was upset that he wasn’t given the Aquile captaincy, especially as “Pioli never gave me an explanation”.

Following Frank de Boer’s sacking, the Coach reunited with Candreva at Inter, but he insists there are no lingering tensions between them.

“There was no rupture, but he didn’t like the choice of Lazio captain [Lucas Biglia],” Pioli shrugged on Premium Sport.

“That’s well-known. Antonio is a great player and a great professional, he’s made himself available with great positivity.

“All the previous situations are in the past, now there’s only Inter.”

Marcelo Brozovic was an outcast under De Boer, but has been reintroduced since Pioli took over.

“When a new Coach arrives he has a clear head, without presuppositions, I had confidence in all the players.

“Brozovic is giving me a positive response. He has to continue like this, he’s young and has good qualities, but he can get even better.

“Joao Mario and Ever Banega? They’re good players, more useful for the attacking phase. We need to grow in the defensive phase, we’re looking for balance.”

The Nerazzurri face injury-ravaged Sassuolo at the weekend, a good chance to pick up some points.

“It’s a very important game, we need to find consistency in our results,” Pioli admitted.

“The teams in front of us are meeting each other, we have to recover points and pedal forward. We have to win on Sunday, and I have a lot of tactical choices to make.”

Journalist Mina Rzouki revealed that Chelsea’s Antonio Conte was envious when Max Allegri took his Juventus to the Champions League final, and Pioli was also asked about that.

“There’s healthy competition [between Coaches], we’re all ambitious. I don’t think they need to be envious, they're both winning a lot.”

Pioli accused Conte of “over-celebrating” when his Bianconeri scored against Pioli’s Bologna

“We clarified it soon after. With absolute respect, you can celebrate.”
