The 33-year-old made the move to Serie A after five seasons at Chelsea, able to choose as a free agent.

“I had several different offers on the table, but I chose Roma because I wanted to experience a different league and country,” the Spaniard told the official Roma website.

“I am pleased with the decision I made, for various reasons. I wanted to be part of a winning team and do something important with Roma. It’s a side that hasn’t won in some time, so competing to the end for a trophy would be very positive for the club.

“I also spoke to the coach and he’s a winner, because he prepares every game with the intent of winning. He can change a few things here and there in training during the week, like pressing a certain opponent, and that shows his desire for victory.

“I’ve spent most of my career with a high press and I really like that way of playing, so it’s easy for me to work with Paulo Fonseca.”

Pedro was asked if he thought about putting his feet up in Spain after his time at Chelsea.

“No, that’s why I wanted to come to Roma, to try to win trophies and do it in a club where you can just feel how much the fans want to celebrate again. I know it’s a big challenge, and a difficult one, but we’re all working to achieve it.”

As well as fighting for a top four position in Serie A, Roma are in the Europa League Round of 32.

“We can absolutely win the Europa League,” continued Pedro. “We know there are big clubs remaining and every game will be difficult, including Sporting Braga in the next round, but with the squad at our disposal, we can go all the way.

“The most important thing at this level is to play with intelligence, keep an eye on the clock and try not to concede goals.”
