Pazzini had been due to start in a 4-3-3 system, but is not even in the squad after picking up a muscular problem during training.
The club medics said the extent of the injury will be evaluated over the next few days.
Fernando Torres is not included, as he hasn’t completed his transfer from Chelsea yet.
Riccardo Montolivo is a long-term absentee, while Mattia De Sciglio and Philippe Mexes sit out bans.
