Palermo have announced that Coach Gian Piero Gasperini has been sacked following the 2-1 defeat against Atalanta.

In a 34-word statement on their website, the club confirmed whispers that Gasperini would not see out the season.

Gasperini was hired after the Week 3 draw against Cagliari which saw Giuseppe Sannino axed. The former Genoa boss collected three wins, seven draws and 10 defeats.

Palermo added in their short note that the new Coach would be announced before tomorrow morning.

That man is now expected to be Alberto Malesani, the ex-Fiorentina tactician who was sacked twice by Genoa last term.

Malesani will sign a deal until June that will include the option of a renewal should he keep the bottom of the table club in Serie A.
