Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer underwent surgery in Finland this morning and will remain out of action for four months, the Rossoneri said in a statement.

Milan will be forced to do without Algeria international Bennacer for four months after the 26-year-old underwent calf surgery on Monday.

“AC Milan can confirm that Ismaël Bennacer underwent surgery in Finland this morning. The operation on his right calf was performed by Dr Lasse Lempainen. His recovery period is estimated to be four months,” Milan said in a statement.

Bennacer suffered the injury while on international duty with the Algeria national team last week.

It was immediately apparent that it was a pretty severe issue, given that the 26-year-old was seen at an Airport in Algeria in a wheelchair last week with an assistant holding crutches.

Milan won’t replace Bennacer by signing a free agent, as Paulo Fonseca will rely on new signing Silvano Vos and Milan Futuro talent Kevin Zeroli to boost midfield options while Bennacer is out of action.

The Rossoneri host Liverpool at San Siro in the opening 2024-25 Champions League game on Tuesday and face city rivals Inter in the first derby della Madonnina of the campaign this coming Sunday.
