Official: Italy announce bid to host Euro 2032 after dropping 2028 hopes

The Italian football federation has officially announced their intention to bid for the right to host Euro 2032.

The bidding process for the hosting rights for the 2028 and 2032 European Championships starts on March 23, with the deadline to present a completed project set for April 12 2023. UEFA’s final decision will be made in September of the same year.

The upcoming Euro 2024 tournament will be hosted in Germany, returning to a single nation after the cross-European hosting style used in Euro 2020.

As announced by the FIGC, the Italian FA has expressed to UEFA their interest in hosting Euro 2032, well in advance of the March deadline. Italy has previously hosted the competition on two occasions in the past, in 1968 and 1980, as well as four matches during Euro 2020.

The statement also highlights the FIGC’s intention to modernise existing stadiums or build new ones around Italy once UEFA’s final decision has been made, in order to bring their quality up to a modern standard.
