Official: De Laurentiis confirms Meluso as new Napoli sporting director

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis confirms the appointment of Mauro Meluso as the new sporting director of the Serie A champions.

ADL surprisingly announced the appointment of Meluso on Twitter on Wednesday.

“I am pleased to announce that Mauro Meluso is the new sporting director of Napoli. Welcome to our family and best wishes,” ADL said on Twitter.

Meluso replaces Cristiano Giuntoli who has recently been appointed by Juventus. De Laurentiis had reportedly held talks with ex-Milan director Frederic Massara last week.

Meluso has big experience in Italy’s lower divisions, especially Serie B and Serie C, but also worked in Serie A, contributing to Spezia‘s survival in 2021.

A former footballer, Meluso played for Lazio, Cremonese and Salernitana, among others. He retired in 1995 starting his career as a sporting director and working for Foggia, Padova, Pisa, Sangiovannese, Teramo, Ternana and Spezia.
