Newcastle’s Tonali announcement near as Italy out of U21 EURO

Newcastle are ready to announce the signing of Sandro Tonali from Milan following Italy U21’s elimination from the European Championship.

Tonali was the captain of the Azzurrini in Romania and Georgia, but Italy have already been eliminated following a 1-0 loss against Norway on Wednesday.

Tonali played all three games, delivering two assists.

The Italian midfielder met his agents and Newcastle’s Chief Scout Nickson earlier in June and is believed to have undergone the first part of his medical while on international duty.

Sky Sports UK reported on Wednesday that Newcastle would announce Tonali’s signing after the end of Italy’s participation at the U21 EURO so this means the Magpies are now ready to welcome the 23-year-old.

Newcastle will sign Tonali for €70m plus add-ons in a transfer worth circa €80m.

The Serie A giants have already identified his replacement, getting Ruben Loftus-Cheek from Chelsea. The English midfielder is currently undergoing his medical with the Rossoneri.
