Newcastle director spotted in Milan with Tonali set for medical during U21 EURO

Representatives from Newcastle are beginning to jet off around Europe as they aim to wrap up a deal with Milan for the services of 23-year-old midfielder Sandro Tonali.

After an agreement on personal terms was reached between the club and player on Wednesday evening, it is thought that the deal is just a few steps away from completion, as Newcastle have increased their offer to Milan to a fee in the region of €80m.

Further evidence that the deal is nearing completion came on Thursday afternoon, as Newcastle’s sporting director, Dan Ashworth was spotted getting out of a car in the streets of Milan, presumably in town hoping to get the final approval from the Rossoneri.

Tonali, meanwhile, is in Romania with the Italy Under-21 squad, currently preparing to play France in their opening game of the upcoming European Championships.

As per both Sky Sport Italia and Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle are willing to fly members of their medical staff out to Romania to conduct a medical at Italy’s base camp during the tournament in order to get a deal wrapped up as quickly as possible.

It is said that the club also acted similarly when signing Bruno Guimaraes last January, travelling out to Brazil for a medical at the player’s convenience.

Pending a positive result from the medical checks, all that is missing is the final green light from the Milan decision makers.
