Napoli in for Darmian?

Napoli have reportedly turned their attention to signing Manchester United’s Matteo Darmian as their hunt for a full-back continues.

The Italy international confirmed late last week that he wants to leave Old Trafford, with Serie A ‘probably’ his preferred destination.

Speculation this summer has linked the likes of Inter and Juventus most heavily with the 28-year-old’s signature.

However, reports this morning state the Partenopei have joined the race for the former Torino player.

Speculation this summer has linked the likes of Inter and Juventus most heavily with the 28-year-old’s signature.

However, reports this morning state the Partenopei have joined the race for the former Torino player.

Napoli have been repeatedly thwarted in their efforts to sign a full-back during this transfer window.

It appeared Youssouf Sabaly was set to join from Bordeaux last week, but a deal was cancelled following the Senegal international’s medical.

PSV Eindhoven’s Santiago Arias has also been a target, but talk of the Colombian moving to San Paolo has cooled amid links with Atletico Madrid.

As such, last season’s Serie A runners up are now said to have identified Darmian as their prime target, with President Aurelio De Laurentiis happy to take him on loan.

Darmian joined United in 2015 but has become frustrated by a lack of first-team football under boss Jose Mourinho.
