Italian newspaper Il Corriere dello Sport reacts to Niccolò Pisilli ‘s first Serie A goal by praising José Mourinho, who promoted the promising midfielder to the Roma first team last year.

Italian midfielder Pisilli, 20, scored his first Serie A goal on Sunday, helping his Roma side secure a 2-1 win over strugglers Venezia at the Stadio Olimpico.

It was not his first goal at a senior level, given that he had already scored on December 14, 2023, in a Europa League game against Sheriff, when Mourinho was still in charge of the Giallorossi.

Mourinho had promoted Pisilli from the Primavera team in the summer of 2023, adding the promising central midfielder to the first team for pre-season training.

For this reason, Corriere dello Sport praised the Portuguese coach on Monday in a column by Xavier Jacobelli titled ‘Mou’s legacy.’

Pisilli made three appearances under Mourinho before the Special One’s sacking in January 2024.

He added two appearances under Daniele De Rossi and has already played three games with new Roma coach Ivan Juric.

“I was surprised. Seeing him live impressed me,” De Rossi said during his unveiling press conference in January.

“I admit I didn’t know him well, but Nicolò is a good player. I didn’t expect him to have this quality. He is practically a kid, but he is really strong.”
