“We have not already reached an agreement, no,” he told journalists after flying back to Milan.
“It was an opportunity to get to know each other better and understand who the people who could join Thohir in an eventual takeover bid are. They are all Indonesian investors, but there aren’t any major problems to resolve.
“What is still missing to reach a deal? We just have to decide what is the right moment and if it suits us. It’s not an issue of roles, as that’s the last thing in the world that could create problems.
“We made steps forward today, especially on a human level, as I appreciated the character of the people I was dealing with and that pleased me.”
Moratti also confirmed he will not leave Inter entirely after 18 years, so will remain with some role within the club and probably also a 30 per cent share.
“My family will stay with Inter. Let’s just say this is more an issue of restructuring the club to deal with the expenditures modern football demands. Just look at the fact there are transfers worth €100m going through to understand what we need to keep Inter at that level.
“It will take another 30 days or so and the deal could arrive, but we said that three months ago too. Will I be President? I’m not thinking about that at the moment.”
