Monchi left Roma by mutual consent on Friday after their failure to progress in the Champions League, but the sporting director was only grateful to the Giallorossi.
“Rome and Roma are two of most passionate things football can offer,” he wrote.

“That’s why I fell in love right away. That’s why in this adventure, I never split passion from work.
“That’s why the desire to make this city happy and do my best for the club were the priorities in all the decisions I took.
“That's why in the constant pursuit of happiness and those who love Rome, I gave my all.
“I know we didn’t achieve all the results we worked for, which we’re passionate about and clashed over at times.
“I’d like to thank all the people I’ve worked with during these years. I won’t forget anyone, everyone has helped to make Trigoria my home.
“It took me a second to choose Roma and it’ll be impossible to forget them. Daje Roma!”
