The Rossoneri have been quiet on the transfer market so far, but Imsael Bennacer is expected to arrive and Real Madrid superstar Luka Modric has even been linked.

“I have great confidence in the work of the directors,” Giampaolo told reporters as the squad prepared to fly out to Boston.

“They have quality and competence, and I’m confident. The optimal situation is to work with a group which has been together since the beginning but I’m not complaining.

“We hope to have everything done before September 2. I’m just focused on working with great enthusiasm and when I get positive responses from the players it pleases me. I don’t much like the transfer market.

“Modric? You’d have to ask [Paolo] Maldini. As for Bennacer, he’s won the Cup of Nations, and there’s nothing else I can say.”

Suso could operate as a trequartista in Giampaolo’s system, but there is speculation that he could be sold.

“He’s shown great willingness to work in that role, and he’s done it very well. He has a strong player who sees the whole of the game and can beat his man.

“I’m happy with him, Suso is a strong player who can make the difference. Transfer situations and developments which are above me are not my responsibility.

“You’d need to talk about it with Maldini, [Zvonimir] Boban and [Daniele] Massara. Right now I have 22 players to coach and I’m trying to get the best out of them.

“I must say that this week the lads have gone beyond my expectations in terms of learning concepts, I want to consolidate certain concepts and improve others.

“Time is my first ally.

“From morning until night I only have Milan in my head, my one and only thought is Milan. We need patience and time, but I’m sure we can do it.”
