Charles De Ketelaere feels ready for the jump to a top club, suggesting that he’s ‘curious what the future will bring’ amid links to Milan and Leeds United.
The 21-year-old Belgian forward was one of the stars of the show at Club Brugge last season, scoring 14 goals and providing seven assists as he shined in a number of attacking positions. De Ketelaere is one of the most exciting young talents in Europe and seems ready to make the move to a top five league.
Speaking to Eleven Sports earlier this year, De Ketelaere first discussed his desire to achieve more in his career.
“I still don’t feel fulfilled, even though I have played against Messi and with De Bruyne. It’s still not enough for me.”
He looked back at the beginnings of his career.
“When I was five or six years old, my mum sent me to a football camp and that’s where it all started. For my mum my first word was ball and playing football has always been my dream.”
The 21-year-old underlined the love he has for his hometown team Club Brugge.
“It’s hard to express the love I have for Club Brugge, I’ve been here since I was a kid and I love this place. It’s a club I will cheer for all my life, but since I started playing for the first team I’ve overcome the fan mentality.”
The Belgian talent spoke about the internal and external pressures he feels.
“I don’t pay much attention to the future, I give my best every day and I just want to become a better player.
“My teammates like the nickname ‘golden boy’, but I don’t want to get ahead of myself. I feel that the pressure I put on myself has always been greater than that of other people.”
Finally, De Ketelaere confirmed that he’s ready for the move to a club in a top league like Milan or Leeds United.
“I’m curious to know what the future will bring, if other clubs show interest I will listen to them. In the past I used to say, ‘If I ever had to leave Club Brugge, I would be so scared’. But now it’s different, if a solid offer comes along, I’m ready.”
