Mihajlovic: ‘Bologna completely lost our way with Inter’

Bologna coach Sinisa Mihajlovic concedes the game ‘ended at half-time’ after a 6-1 defeat to Inter. We completely lost our way.’

The Rossoblu had been unbeaten in Serie A so far this season with two wins and a draw, going into San Siro level on seven points with Inter.

However, they were 3-0 down by the break and eventually suffered a 6-1 hammering.

“The game ended at half-time. We played, they scored,” Mihajlovic told DAZN.

“We conceded goals too easily, had the chances to get back into it with Roberto Soriano and it might’ve been different had we equalised, but football is not about ifs and buts.

“The result was harsh in the first half, then after the break we completely lost our way and lost the defensive solidity we’d shown over the last couple of games. When you play like that against the champions at Inter, you will be made to pay.”

Edin Dzeko scored twice, with Lautaro Martinez, Matias Vecino, Milan Skriniar and Nicolò Barella also on target.

“I honestly thought the performance in the first half wasn’t too bad, Inter scored on the counter and a set play, but we conceded too easily and didn’t take our chances. They could’ve scored 10 today ultimately,” shrugged Mihajlovic.

“I am sorry for the team, but fortunately we have another match coming up straight away and will try to learn the lessons from it to reboot.”

Denzel Dumfries was a constant thorn in Bologna’s side, especially giving Scottish full-back Aaron Hickey a nightmare evening.

“We knew they had a lot of pace on the wings and would go on the counter, but Aaron should’ve cut off the crossing foot and made him go with the weaker foot.

“We must learn to be humble in defence again, something we had done over the last couple of games, but we lost that today. We proved that we can do it, we must do it again and focus first and foremost on defending as a team. Everyone has to contribute.”

Mihajlovic had said before the game that Inter had weaknesses too, so did he see them today?

“All teams have weaknesses, but seeing tonight’s game, we clearly had more weak points than Inter. When they did make errors, we did not make the most of them.

“It’s in the past now, we will analyse the errors we made and try not to repeat them.”
