Mazzarri oversees Napoli training for the last time: Calzona on the bench against Barcelona

Multiple sources claim Walter Mazzarri is overseeing his last training session at Napoli as Francesco Calzona will replace him tomorrow, on the eve of a Champions League game against Barcelona.

Several sources in Italy, including DAZN’s Orazio Accomando say Calzona will sign a four-month contract with Napoli until the end of the season today.

This means that this afternoon’s training session at Castel Volturno will be the last one for Walter Mazzarri who has collected just 15 points in 12 Serie A matches since his return in November 2023.

Calzona is a former assistant to Maurizio Sarri and Luciano Spalletti at Lazio and is currently in charge of the Slovakia national team, a role he will keep during his four-month stay at the Stadio Maradona.

Accomando reports that Francesco Sinatti, a former Napoli fitness coach who has followed Spalletti at Italy will return to the Stadio Maradona, but ex-Partenopei star Marek Hamsik could also join Calzona’s staff until the end of the season.

If all goes to plan, Calzona will make his debut on the Napoli bench against Barcelona on Wednesday night.
