Mazzarri: ‘Napoli bond is stronger’

After threatening to walk away, Walter Mazzarri assures the rapport with Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis “has been strengthened.”

The Coach publicly declared he might not stay next season and some suggest he had been sacked for this statement, but a meeting this week managed to calm the situation.

“I just needed to hear from the club,” Mazzarri told Radio Marte. “In a year many things happen in such an important arena, so at the end of the season you need to clear the air.

“It's true that my rapport with the President has been strengthened by this experience.”

There were reports that he had been offered the Juventus job, but that is now heading towards Antonio Conte.

“Putting my stay at Napoli in doubt did not mean my mind was elsewhere. I always referred only to Napoli, the interests of the club, the team and the fans.

“We clarified everything and are aware that we can do well, even if it'll be difficult to follow up such an excellent campaign as this.”

It's believed he only agreed to remain at the San Paolo if the squad reinforced considerably for the Champions League.

“We have grown remarkably and the objective is to continue improving by doing well in Serie A and honouring the Champions League.

“You know that the Coach gives suggestions to his club and we will make three or four signings. I am sure Marek Hamsik and Ezequiel Lavezzi have no reason to leave Napoli, especially now we are in the Champions League.”
