Mancini set for Saudi Arabia appointment – report

Reports beginning to emerge on Sunday afternoon suggest that Roebrto Mancini could soon be appointed as head coach of the Saudi Arabia national football team following his decision to retire as Italy CT earlier in the day.

Originally reported by the Saudi-based newspaper Al-Riyadh, Mancini has an offer to become the nation’s new head coach on a three year contract.

Multiple reports elsewhere suggest that discussions will continue into the start of the week before an official proposal is presented to Mancini.

The 58-year-old unexpectedly stepped down from his position with Italy on Sunday afternoon after a five-year spell in charge of the Azzurri.

He had also recently been named as the co-ordinator for Italy’s youth teams in a move that was supposed to give him more control over the development of young players coming through the ranks.

During his time in the hot seat, Mancini had led Italy to glory at EURO 2020, but failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Previously, he has won the Coppa Italia with Fiorentina, Lazio and Inter as well as the Serie A title with the Nerazzurri, adding a Premier League trophy and an FA Cup to his CV during his time with Manchester City. He has also lifted the Turkish cup with Galatasaray.
